Choosing the right dining room furniture

Exactly what dining room furniture to buy is a major decision in most homes. They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home but the dining room is the place where most people enjoy the food that is so lovingly made in there, so you will want the dining room and the furniture in it to be perfect!
There are a couple of things to consider before buying your dining set:

Materials

There are lots of styles and materials to choose from so you will want to do a little bit of research before taking the plunge. Most people will opt for the more traditional resource of wood when acquiring their dining table and chairs. Wooden furniture is more homely and creates a warm and cosy feeling. There are numerous woods to choose from and each has its own individual characteristic and charm. Popular types of wood used in dining room furniture include oak, pine, birch, teak and beech. Glass and steel are also popular materials used in the manufacturing process but these tend to give a more modern and contemporary feel.

Functionality

How you use your dining room will also need to be considered. Will you be entertaining a lot? Does the family sit down to every meal and will the kids do their homework on the dining table? If the answer is yes to one or more of these questions you might want to go for something that is hard-wearing and sustainable. If the dining room is exclusively for special occasions you can opt for something a bit more expensive and stylish such as French furniture.

Size

The size of your dining room and the size of the dining table you want to buy will obviously be determining factors in your decision. You can only fit so much into a room, and you need to account for space to move the chairs around. If you do have a large dining room but don’t want a huge table, a folding dining room table is a great option.  It does not take up all of the space but it can easily be extended for those special Christmas and holiday dinners.

Budget

How much you spend on your dining table and chairs is going to be unique to each person. It is normally an investment that you will benefit from for most of your lifetime so don’t be too worried about spending money on this part of the home. If you are going for the more functional though then don’t be afraid to look for some great discount furniture.

Decorating your bathroom

The bathroom tends to be neglected in most homes because it is normally the smallest room in the house. Most people overlook the fact that it is also the most used room and when it comes to selling your home, one of
the most important too. Why not create a stylish bathroom that is both beautiful and functional and a perfect space for relaxing at the end of a long day.

There are a number of things to consider when decorating your bathroom.

Functionality

If it is the only bathroom in the house it will need to function well as a family bathroom. If it is a secondary bathroom you might consider turning it into your personal sanctuary for a little bit of quiet time away from the rest of the family. The tiling, lighting and bathroom fittings will probably need to be more of a “standard” nature in a functional bathroom however if it is an additional bathroom you can be a lot more creative in the design and fixtures that you choose.

Layout

You may want to refurbish the entire bathroom by gutting it and starting over from scratch. This is great as it allows you to think of creative new ways to make the most use of the space available. You may wish to have a bathtub and a shower in the bathroom by moving things around a little bit. It is a good idea to get a second opinion before ripping the bathtub and toilet out though as it can be costly to move the plumbing and this will need to be factored into the redecoration budget.

Style and decor

This will come down to individual taste. There are so many bathroom manufacturers and suppliers around these days that the possibilities for decorating are virtually endless. There is such a variety of taps, toilets, bathtubs, tiles, lighting and furniture that you will be able to create any style you desire. If anything you may be a little overwhelmed by the possibilities.

Long term plans

When decorating your bathroom you may want to consider the fact that you will be selling your home one day. When new buyers are looking at a buying a home the bathroom layout and décor will more than likely create an
impact on their decision. If you are planning to sell up in the near future you may want to decorate in a neutral colour.
